Description

Corner Cottage, Hill House, and the attached outbuilding are located on Church Street in Fenny Compton. The cottage, possibly dating from the 16th century, was raised and altered in the 18th century, with a 19th-century rear wing that was largely rebuilt in the late 20th century. The building features regular coursed limestone and a brick wing with a brick corbel cornice, topped with an old tile roof and brick ridge and end stacks. Originally a one-unit structure, it has been extended to a three-unit plan and stands two storeys high with a one-window range. The late 20th-century part-glazed door and three-light casements have original wood lintels. The left side of the cottage has a blocked single chamfered light and a blocked opening with a wood lintel, while the wing has late 20th-century casements. Inside, there is a chamfered ceiling beam.

Hill House, which is part of the same property, features a late 18th-century main range, a lower late 18th or early 19th-century range, and an outbuilding to the right, along with an early to mid-19th-century rear range adjoining Corner Cottage. The building is constructed of coursed ironstone, with a regular coursed ironstone range to the right and an ironstone ashlar range to the rear. It has 20th-century tile roofs and brick end and ridge stacks. The main range has a two-unit plan with one-unit ranges, standing two storeys and an attic, with a one-storey and attic wing and a two-storey rear range, featuring a three-window range. The main range has a blocked central doorway and three-light casements with horizontal glazing bars and painted run-out chamfered wood lintels on either side. The wing includes a half-glazed door and a fixed light window with stone lintels, as well as a raked half-dormer with a leaded two-light casement. The outbuilding has a flush four-panelled door and overlight, with a large painted wood lintel, and the rear is irregular. Inside the outbuilding, which is said to have been a shop, there is a kitchen with a bread oven and original door, as well as old plank doors and winder stairs. This property is included for its group value.
