Description

18 and 19 College Street are a pair of town houses built in the 1820s, with alterations to No. 18 made in 1905. The houses are constructed of brick with stucco dressings and have a slate roof featuring brick cross-axial stacks and an end stack. They follow a double-depth plan and are designed in the Georgian style, standing two storeys high with a four-window range.

The top of the houses has a modillioned brick cornice. The entrance to No. 19 features a doorcase with moulded pilasters and a bracketed cornice above an overlight leading to a six-fielded-panel door. The entrance to No. 18 is located on the return side. The windows have sills and rubbed brick flat arches with keys above twelve-pane sashes. Notably, No. 18 has two canted bay windows with cornices and hipped lead roofs above two: four: two-pane horned sashes, while the first-floor windows have painted lintels over four-pane horned sashes. There is a segmental-headed entry in the short wall to the right end. The left return features an entrance with pilasters, a frieze, and a bracketed hood, with a four-pane horned sash window on each floor.

College Street is part of the development on land that housed the medieval priests' college until 1799, situated in an area known for its high-quality early 19th-century housing.
