Description

A pair of town houses dating from the 1820s, located on College Street in Stratford-upon-Avon. The buildings are constructed of brick with buff brick headers and stucco dressings, topped with a slate roof and brick stacks. The design is in the Georgian style, employing a double-depth plan. The two-storey properties present an almost symmetrical four-window facade, highlighted by a plain cornice. A round-headed entry is on the left-hand side, containing a plank door, while the right-hand side features an elliptical-headed carriage entrance with a rusticated arch and key stone over paired plank doors. Both entrances have moulded doorcases, friezes, and flat cornices. The overlights have decorative glazing bars above the fielded-panel doors. The windows have sills and rusticated wedge lintels with keys over the 12-pane sashes. College Street forms part of the development on the site of the former medieval priests’ college, which was demolished in 1799, and is characterised by high-quality early 19th century housing.
