Description
No. 36 College Lane is a town house that was once a shop and dwelling, built in the 1820s. The building is constructed of brick with buff headers and features a double-gable slate roof with brick end stacks. It has a double-depth plan and is designed in the Georgian style, standing two storeys tall with a symmetrical three-window arrangement. A modillioned brick cornice adorns the top of the building. The entrance is framed by panelled pilasters and has an overlight above a six-flush-panel door. The entablature extends over the canted bay windows on either side, which contain four-over-six-over-four pane sash windows. On the first floor, there are windows with sills and cambered brick arches above sixteen-pane sash windows, along with a central blind window. College Lane is part of the area that was developed on the site of the medieval priests' college, which existed until 1799, and is surrounded by early 19th-century housing of good quality.
