Description

A pair of town houses situated in College Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, dating from the 1820s. Constructed of brick with buff brick headers and stucco dressings, the houses have a slate roof and a large brick stack running across the center. They follow a double-depth plan and are built in the Georgian style. The two-storey building presents a symmetrical appearance with a two-window frontage. Wide eaves are supported by small paired brackets. The entrances, located at the ends of the building, feature moulded doorcases and flat cornices; the door to number 3 is a 20th-century replacement, while the door to number 4 has fielded panels over flush panels. The windows have sills and rusticated wedge lintels with key stones above the 12-pane sashes. A rainwater head is also a notable feature. College Street was developed on land previously occupied by a medieval priests' college, which was demolished in 1799, and the street is characterized by high-quality early 19th-century housing.
