Description

Old Town Cottage is a town house dating from 1841-42. Constructed of stucco with a fishscale-tile roof and brick end stacks, it is built in a Victorian-Tudor style and forms an L-shaped plan. The building features pilasters to the first floor and Tudor arches over gables, which are decorated with barge-boards and finials. The three-window front has a lean-to ground floor with two gabled projections. The entrance is recessed to the left of centre, with an overlight to a half-glazed door, both featuring decorative glazing. A recessed carriage entrance to the right end has a similar blind overlight to paired battened doors with ogival heads. Gabled projections have French windows with overlights and flanking single windows, all with decorative glazing, and the first-floor windows have chamfered reveals and label moulds over cross-casements. The stacks have fluted shafts and retain caps to the right end. The rear features a simpler gabled wing. The architectural details are shared with nearby properties at Nos. 17-19A Old Town, Nos. 14 & 15 Warwick Road, and houses in Bishopton.
