Description
No. 4 Daventry Road is a house built in the late 17th century to early 18th century, with significant additions from the late 18th century to early 19th century. The exterior features colourwashed brick in Flemish bond and a dentilled eaves cornice. The roofs are a mix of slate and tile, with brick stacks at the ends. The building has an L-shaped plan and consists of two storeys plus an attic. The first floor has a three-window range of sixteen-pane sash windows, while the ground floor features a two-light casement window with 'candle' panel from the 18th century on the right side, and a 20th-century casement window on the first floor right. The entrance is a panelled and glazed door set within a pilaster surround, topped with a hood.
At the rear, there is a timber-framed range from the late 17th century to early 18th century, which has brick infill and includes two 20th-century dormers and two 19th-century doors. Inside, the later range has chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and a stick-baluster staircase. The earlier range features a queen-post roof with curved principal rafters. There are six-panelled doors throughout the ground and first floors, along with one late 17th century to early 18th century plank door located on the first floor of the earlier range.
