Description
The Crown Inn is a mid-18th century building that originally consisted of two houses and has since been converted into an inn. The structure features squared coursed lias stone with a rendered plinth on the ground floor to the right, while the left side is timber framed with rendered infill. The roof is covered with 20th-century tiles and has brick stacks at each end. The building was originally designed with a three-unit plan on the right and a two-unit plan on the left.
It is two stories high and has a five-window range that includes 19th-century two-light casements, a nine-pane sash window, and two 19th-century bow windows on the right. There are also two 20th-century dormers on the left side. A 18th-century plank door is located at the far left, with a 20th-century door to the center-right. There is a blocked doorway to the right that features a wooden lintel. The gable end, which dates from the 18th century, has a small leaded light on the right. The rear of the building has extensions from the 19th and 20th centuries. Inside, the ground floor rooms showcase chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
