Description
The Congregational Church is a chapel built in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of brick in Flemish garden wall bond and has a rendered front. The slate roof features staggered dentilled eaves cornice on the sides and a rendered parapet at the front. There is a brick end stack. The building is one storey high but has a two-storey appearance, with a three-window range of Gothick one-light casements that include Decorated-style iron tracery. Above the central door, which has two lights with iron tracery and a blind cinquefoil at the apex, are double plank doors with a timber traceried head set within a pointed arch. The windows and doors are adorned with rendered hood moulds and foliage labels. Tall windows with Gothick iron tracery extend the full height of the building on the sides. Inside, there are polygonal-tiled aisle floors, 19th-century pews, an organ, and a timber altar featuring traceried panels, all designed in the Gothick style. The raised altar rail is complemented by decorative iron balusters, and the ceiling is finished with a plaster cornice and decorative rosettes.
