Description

Manor Cottages is a house that dates back to the 16th century and late 17th century. It is constructed from cruck-framed limestone ashlar, featuring a plinth and coped gables. The roof is made of slate and includes a brick internal stack as well as an ashlar end stack with brick flues. The building has two storeys and an attic, with an L-shaped plan that includes a wing at the rear left.

On the ground floor, there are three-light mullioned windows with hood moulds and label stops on both the left and right sides. The left side also features a two-light mullioned window on the first floor. The right gable end has a three-light mullioned window, and there are additional three-light and two-light mullioned windows on the first floor. In the attic, there is a two-light mullioned window with an oeil-de-boeuf light above it. All windows are adorned with hood moulds and label stops.

At the rear, an earlier range includes a plank door set within a four-centred chamfered surround, and to the right, there is a four-light mullioned window with a king mullion. The left gable end features a four-light mullioned window with a king mullion, as well as a three-light mullioned window. Above the door, there is a light, ovolo-moulded, wood mullioned window.

Inside the 16th-century range, there are a pair of crucks raised approximately from the ground, an arched braced collar in the roof, and windbraces. The interior also includes timber and plaster panelling, a large open fireplace on the ground floor, hollow chamfered and moulded spine beams, stone flagged floors, and a wood spiral staircase. In the late 17th-century range, there is an ovolo-moulded spine beam and some old plank doors.
