Description

Peters Cottage is a cottage dating back to 1610, with alterations from the 19th century. The ground floor is built with squared, coursed limestone, while the first floor is brick, with the right side of the rear wall entirely brick. Quoins are present on the right side. The roof is covered in stone slate, with a brick ridge and end stacks on ashlar bases. The cottage has two storeys and a three-window front. It follows a two-unit plan. A 19th-century plank door, under a wooden lintel, sits in the centre. Part of the left side has been rebuilt in brick. A three-light fixed casement replaces a former mullioned window to the left, and a single-light casement with a wooden lintel is located to the far left. A four-light mullioned window with a hood mould and label stops is on the right. The first floor has a three-light window, gabled above, to the left, and two two-light windows, also gabled above, to the centre and right. Two rendered brick buttresses support the front wall. A datestone on the rear wall is inscribed with 'A/1610'. Inside, there are chamfered spine beams and joists, two large open fireplaces, and some stone flagged floors. The cottage is included on the list for group value.
