Description

The gatehouse and attached barn at Salford Hall date from the early 17th century. The structure features regular coursed lias stone, timber-framed gables with lath and plaster infill, and some areas of weatherboarding. The roof is tiled, with asbestos sheeting on the right end and the barn at the rear. The building is arranged in an L-plan and consists of one storey and an attic with four main bays.

A central round archway, adorned with ashlar dressings, leads to 18th-century panelled gates. Above the archway is a steep gable that showcases herring-bone framing and a three-light wood mullioned and transomed window. To the left, there is a pair of mid-19th century carriage doors and a small opening. To the right, the facade includes two two-light stone mullions, a stable door, and a hay loft door. The cross wing on the far right is weatherboarded from the first floor height.

The left end of the building features a two-light stone mullion and a square framed gable with brick at the rear, facing Salford Hall. Above the archway is another gable that includes a plaster sundial. The roof structure consists of trenched purlins with wind braces. The barn is timber framed with 19th and 20th-century brick infill, and a significant portion of the framing has been replaced with brick.
