Description
The Orchards is a farmhouse built around 1830, with alterations and additions made in the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed of red brick and features three gauged brick relieving arches on the ground floor. The roof is shallow hipped and covered with slate, having broad eaves and brick lateral chimneys. The building has a central staircase plan and stands two storeys tall with a three-window range. The central entrance consists of a half-glazed door and a fanlight with decorative glazing, all framed by a moulded architrave. The windows are 16-pane sashes. There have been additions and alterations to the rear of the building. Inside, there is a simple straight flight staircase and chimney pieces in the 18th-century style, which have been brought from elsewhere.
