Description
Godiva Cottage is a row of cottages, now combined into one, dating from the 16th century or earlier, with additions from the 17th century and alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. The left side features timber framing with plastered infill and a hipped thatched roof, while the right side is part timber framed and part rendered, likely over brick rebuilding, with a tiled roof. A 20th-century addition breaks the line of the roof but continues its slope. There is a brick internal stack on the left and an external stack on the right. The cottage likely started as a two-unit plan, with a single storey added on the left and significant extensions on the right. It has one storey and an attic, with a three-window range that includes one swept dormer and two full dormers. The entrance is at the right end, featuring a 20th-century door, and most windows are 20th-century casements. The left end and rear display exposed framing. Inside, the thatched section has been opened up into a single room that reaches almost to the apex of the roof. The former end wall on the left includes an open fireplace and crucks, and there is a massively framed wall and roof truss with the infill removed.
