Description

Grove Cottage and the eye-catcher at the east end, along with the house adjoining at the rear, are located on Broad Lane in Fillongley. The main house dates from the late 18th century and is built of red brick in Flemish bond with a plain-tiled gabled roof and an end stack. It has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys tall. On the first floor, there are two flush frame casements with their heads aligned with the eaves. The central doorway is set in a gabled brick porch featuring a pointed outer arch, which contains a late 20th-century glazed door but retains its original fanlight with Y-tracery. The two casements flanking the doorway also have similar tracery and pointed arches. There is one rear window that matches this style.

The eye-catcher at the east end is also made of red brick and features a two-storey canted bay with tall blind loop openings on the return walls. It has a parapet above, which is topped by a cylindrical chimney with a brick cornice and similar loop openings.

The adjoining house at the rear is from the early 19th century, constructed of red brick in random bond with a hipped plain-tiled roof and a ridge stack. This house also has a two-unit plan, a cellar, and two storeys. It retains original openings alongside late 20th-century windows in three first-floor windows, with the central window being blocked. The central doorway features a round-headed arch and a flush panelled door.
