Description

The Grove is a house dating from around 1830, located in Chirton Conock. It is constructed of Flemish brick with raised limestone quoins, and has a slated roof. The main house is two storeys high, arranged in two parallel ranges of three bays, with a one-bay, two-storey extension in colourwashed brick on the left side of the rear range, rendered to the front. A central six-panelled door, with a fanlight in an arched recess, is sheltered by a Tuscan portico with a pediment. The windows are margin-glazed sashes, with a matching, later French window on the right side and a twelve-paned sash with concealed boxes on the left. The window openings have gauged brick lintels with keyblocks, and the first-floor windows have ornamental blind boxes. The eaves have paired modillion details, and there are gable stacks. The rear elevation was significantly altered in the 20th century. A three-bay, two-storey wing extends from the rear left side, with an attached two-bay barn that is weatherboarded and has a corrugated iron roof.
