Description
The Cottage, formerly known as Conock Cottage, is a house dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of diaper brick with raised quoins and a platband, and the front elevation was rendered around 1820. The building features a slate roof and stands two storeys tall with an attic, comprising five window bays and a central stair hall plan, along with a later lean-to at the rear.
The entrance includes a six-panelled door set within a porch that has a swept felt roof. The windows are twelve-paned sashes, with those on the ground floor fitted with 20th-century louvred shutters. The eaves are boxed, and the roof is hipped, featuring two small gabled dormers. There are two brick stacks on the rear wall, and blind windows are present on the gable end. Additionally, a stone from the garden, displaying the arms of Ernle impaling Hungerford, is now mounted above the door.
