Description
South Cottage is a cottage dating from around 1720. It is timber framed with colourwashed brick infilling and has a thatched roof. The building is a single storey with an attic and consists of two bays. There is a mid-20th century outbuilding to the right of the main structure, beyond a major stack, and a late 20th century single storey wing at the rear. The framing features three panels high with corner braces. At the lower end of the main heated room, there is a four-panelled door set within an open rustic porch. The cottage has 19th century timber casement windows and the thatch extends over two flush dormers on the upper floor. A gable stack is located to the right, and the roof is half hipped to the left. The outbuilding has a tiled roof with an end stack. Inside, there is a stack made of chalkstone. The main heated room includes an open fireplace with a timber lintel and run-out chamfer stops, as well as a spine beam with ogee stops. The central roof truss features wattle and daub infilling and a plated yoke apex.
