Description
Olive Cottage comprises two houses, now combined into one, dating back to the 17th century, with likely earlier 19th-century brick walls, and later additions and alterations including a 20th-century extension to the rear right. It is constructed of reddish-brown brick in an English garden wall bond, with a plain-tile roof. The building follows a three-cell lobby-entrance plan, incorporating an outshut to the right.
Externally, it is a single-storey building with an attic, featuring a three-window front. A plinth runs around the base. The off-centre left entrance has a 20th-century door set within an elliptical arch, flanked by two 20th-century casement windows, also under elliptical arches. Three roof dormers are fitted with casement windows. A ridge stack is present, along with a stack to the left end. The right gable-end exhibits exposed timber framing, showcasing original purlins, a collar beam, two queen posts, and crossed principals.
Internally, the cottage features deeply chamfered beams, an inglenook fireplace with a bressumer beam, and some exposed small square panels of timber framing.
The cottage contributes to the group value it shares with Lapworth Hill Farmhouse and is listed in recognition of this association.
