Description
Obelisk Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with later additions and alterations, including a refronting in the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick with painted render and has a plain-tile roof, forming a T-shaped plan.
The exterior features two storeys and a three-window range, with a single-storey range at the rear that includes an attic. The front facade has three pilaster buttresses. There is a part-glazed door to the right of the centre, which is sheltered by a hood, and it is flanked by canted bay windows that have casements with glazing bars beneath hipped roofs. The first floor has tripartite casements with glazing bars and wooden mullions, and there is a dentil eaves band. The right end of the building has an off-centre ridge and a rear internal stack.
Inside, the farmhouse retains some timber-framing elements, including a jowled stud in the front room, chamfered beams, and an inglenook fireplace with a bressumer beam. There are exposed wall plates and plank doors. The rear range features a beam with a deeply-cut chamfer, and the attic has exposed purlins. The farmhouse forms a group with Obelisk at Umberslade Park.
