Description
Grove Cottages, formerly known as Sunnyside, are a late-medieval hall with cross-wings, now divided into three cottages. The core of the building dates to the 16th and 17th centuries, with later alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries, and a 20th-century extension to the rear. The front walls are constructed of brickwork in Flemish bond and Flemish Garden Wall bond, identifiable by the use of blue headers. The building incorporates a plinth, a first-floor band, and rubbed flat arches. The upper floor on the south side of number 1 cottage is tile-hung. A small section of original timber frame is visible. The roof is tiled, with a hipped design, a gablet at the north end, and a raised hip and dormers on the south wing. A stack is shafted. The south-east front elevation is two storeys high, with a central section of one storey and an attic. The window arrangement appears as 1-2-1. Casement windows are present, alongside plain doorways. The rear reveals extending wings, displaying exposed timber framework, and a central 20th-century extension with a flat roof.
