Description
This is a late 18th-century house that was originally a rectory, and has since been divided into two separate dwellings. The house has undergone alterations and extensions in the early and mid-19th centuries. The exterior walls are painted brick, constructed in a Flemish Garden Wall bond, with a later section being unpainted. It has a plinth and some cambered openings. The front facade incorporates Gothic stucco detailing to part of the building. The roof is tiled, with a small area of slate.
The north front has two original window openings on the east side, followed by a projecting gable feature with a porch built in a Gothic style. A three-window westward extension from the Victorian era partially obscures the earlier regular facade and projects forward. The Gothic section has hoodmoulds over the windows, a striking octagonal corner to the porch with oval, chamfered arches, a shallow ground-floor bay with a hipped slate roof supported by brackets, chamfered window reveals, and octagonal projections at the base and head of the gable. The windows are sash windows, and there is a studded door. The western Victorian section has a plain arched door below a narrow window, a splayed bay window on the ground floor, and sash windows with narrow side panes.
The rear elevation is irregular in design, with a lower west side, featuring two storeys and 12 windows above a 22-window arrangement. It includes sash windows, a tall staircase window, and some casement windows, along with glazed doors.
