Description
Clock House is a house, likely originally built for the manager or foreman of the canal maintenance yard, dating from the mid-19th century with later additions. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick and features a painted brick cornice. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, and the internal brick stacks have clustered chamfered square shafts topped with a single dentil cornice. The house has a central staircase plan with additions to the right and is two storeys high, presenting a three-window range. The symmetrical front includes a half-glazed four-panelled door set in a moulded wood surround. The porch is supported by thin columns and half-columns and features a modillion cornice. The windows consist of 16-pane sashes and a central 8-pane sash, all with rendered sills and rusticated flat arches that have moulded keyblocks. To the right, there is a lower irregular two-storey wing of several builds that is set back. The left return side has a two-bay configuration with 20th-century wooden mullioned and transomed three-light windows on the left and blind openings on the right, all beneath moulded basket arches with keyblocks. The interior has not been inspected. The building is included for its group value.
