Description

HARTSHILL ATHERSTONE ROAD SP39NW (South-west side) 2/95 Clock House GV II House, probably originally for the canal maintenance yard manager or foreman. Mid C19, with later additions. Flemish bond brick with painted brick cornice. Hipped slate roof; brick internal stacks have clustered chamfered square shafts with single dentil cornice. Central staircase plan with additions to right. 2 storeys; 3-window range. Symmetrical front has half-glazed 4-panelled door in moulded wood surround. Porch of thin columns and half-columns has modillion cornice. 16-pane and central 8-pane sashes have rendered sills and rusticated flat arches with moulded keyblock. Lower irregular 2-storey wing of several builds set back on right. 2-bay left return side has C20 wood mullioned and transomed 3-light windows to left and blind openings to right under moulded basket arches with keyblocks. Interior not inspected. Included for group value.
