Description
Hartshill Castle Ruins are the fragmentary remains of a castle dating from the 13th century. The structure is built from coursed squared Hartshill granite, with sandstone dressings. Sections of the curtain wall rise to a maximum height of approximately 3 metres and feature quoins and cross-loops. In the north-east corner, there is a large brick chimney that contains two chamfered stone fireplaces, which are all that remains of a 16th-century house that was built within the castle walls. The site is scheduled as an Ancient Monument.
