Description
This is a cottage and canal bridge built in the mid-19th century, located approximately 75 meters east of the covered dock and workshops at the British Waterways Maintenance Depot. The cottage is constructed from purple brick and features a dentil cornice. It has a slate roof with brick stacks at both ends. The building is two storeys high facing the road and three storeys high at the rear overlooking the canal. There are two doors and an irregular arrangement of windows consisting of 2-light casements. The upper floors at the rear have a two-window range of 2-light casements, while the ground floor has a large basket arch that is now blocked, which originally provided access to the wharf. The bridge is also made of purple brick and has a brick-coped parapet that ends in stone-coped piers, with a single basket arch spanning the canal. This structure is included for its group value.
