Description
Canal House is an early 19th-century canal cottage that has been altered in the 20th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a hipped slate roof with a brick internal stack. The building has a two-unit plan and consists of two storeys and a basement, with a two-window range on the main front, which faces the canal. This façade includes a blocked door to the left of centre, a 20th-century door to the far left, likely replacing a window, and a continuous wood lintel over the door, the blocked door, and a two-light casement window to the right. The first floor has a similar casement window with wood lintels.
The rear elevation, which faces the garden and Bridge Road, has a full basement on this side, featuring a part-glazed door to the right and two-light casement windows on the ground floor, all with brick segmental-arched heads. There is a small square staircase window on the ground floor far right with a chamfered wood surround and a one-light window on the first floor to the left below the eaves. Inside, the basement has a beamed ceiling.
