Description
The Boat Inn is a public house and shop dating from the 18th century, with some alterations and additions made in the 20th century. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features a straw thatch roof with brick ridge and end stacks. The building has a four-unit plan and is one storey with an attic, comprising a nine-bay range.
The entrance on the left consists of a four-panel door with a moulded wood surround and a straight head supported by brackets. To the left of the centre is a plank door, and to the right of the centre is a part-blocked door, both featuring wood lintels. On the far right, there is a pair of 20th-century doors with concrete lintels. The far left has a bay window, while to the right of the left door is a three-light casement window, and there are additional two-light casements, all with wood lintels.
The building has large 20th-century extensions to the right and rear, which are not of special architectural interest. Inside, the property features chamfered spine beams. Originally known as the Navigation Inn, it has been an ale-house since the 18th century.
