Description
Nos. 3, 4, and 4A on Bolebridge Street in Tamworth are two houses that have been converted into shops and offices. They date from around 1760 and are built in brick with a tile roof and brick stacks, showcasing a Georgian style. The building has three storeys and features a three-window range. It has a blue brick plinth, two platt bands, and 20th-century eaves, with the original wooden cornice removed in 1990.
The left end of the building has a 20th-century shop front with a bracketed ashlar frieze and cornice, leading to an entrance for Bolebridge Mews on the right. There is a small-paned window and a recessed entrance with a plain opening that leads up steps to a modern door. The windows have sills and rubbed brick flat arches, with 16-pane and 12-pane sashes on the ground floor, 12-pane sashes on the first floor, and 9-pane sashes on the second floor. The building features a coped gable and an end stack on the left, as well as a large cross-axial stack.
At the rear, there are two gabled wings, with the right wing containing chamfered beams in the interior and a 20th-century addition. A partial inspection of the interior has revealed chamfered beams in the rear wing.
