Description
Nos. 8 and 9 King Street are two houses that have been converted into offices and a shop. They were built in the late 18th century and have undergone some later alterations. The buildings are constructed of brick and topped with a tile roof, featuring a double-depth plan. They rise three storeys and have a seven-window range.
The top cornice is present, and there is a flat pilaster at the left end. The first four windows on the first floor have rusticated wedge lintels, while the remaining windows have rubbed brick flat arches above 20th-century sash windows. The ground floor includes an 8-pane tripartite sash and a 12-pane sash. The first floor features 12-pane sashes, with the end three windows likely being original, along with an end 12-pane tripartite sash. The second floor has 6-pane sashes, with an end 8-pane sash.
The entrance displays a lintel similar to those above the windows, a six-panel door, and an overlight. The central entry has a rusticated elliptical arch, a plain door, and a grille above it. There is also a 20th-century double-fronted shop front with small-paned bow windows, a modern wall-mounted lantern, and a wrought-iron bracket. The rear of the building has a 20th-century addition. The interior has not been inspected. This building is part of a row of Georgian houses on King Street, which were constructed after 1751.
