Description

This is a late 18th-century house, originally two dwellings, now used as shops at 25 and 25A King Street. It was constructed as part of a group of Georgian houses following 1751, as documented in Isaac Taylor’s plan of Wolverhampton. The building is brick with stucco dressings and has a parapeted roof. It follows a double-depth plan and presents a symmetrical 5-window facade over three storeys. A top cornice sits above a high, coped parapet, with the parapet ramped at each end. First-floor windows have rusticated wedge lintels and 12-pane sashes, while the second floor has 6-pane sashes. The ground floor has modern shop fronts, flanking a central entrance with an eared architrave, a pulvinated frieze, and a cornice above a 6-panel door, which includes glazed panels. Inside, a central staircase features boarded-over balusters.
