Description

The Old Still Inn Public House is a late 18th-century building that was refronted and altered around 1880. It features stucco over brick, a tile roof, and brick stacks, with a double-depth plan. The structure stands three storeys high and has a two-window range. The ground floor includes terms that support a frieze and cornice, with a similar frieze and cornice on the first floor, and a top cornice. There is a flat pilaster on the right side. The ground floor windows have fixed frames with transoms and three upper lights, featuring leaded glazing. The first floor has canted bay windows with small-paned upper lights, while the second floor has low segmental-headed windows. The central entrance is adorned with a swan-necked pediment, a blind fan, and paired three-panel doors. Above the entrance, there is a panel with a cartouche displaying a cross and the lettering: OLD STILL/INN, topped with a shallow segmental pediment. The building has two cross-axial stacks, one of which has a corbelled-out cap. The rear of the building is similar in style. The interior retains some fittings from around 1880. The Old Still Inn is part of a row of Georgian houses on King Street, which were built after 1751.
