Description

The lych gate, walls, railings, gates, and gate piers to the churchyard of St Edward are made of stone and cast iron. The lych gate is dated 1634, while the walls have been rebuilt over time, incorporating stones from the 18th century and late 19th century. The stone gate piers facing east are square in shape and topped with shallow pyramidal caps. The gates are made of cast iron, and there is a length of cast-iron spearhead railings on a stone plinth wall with moulded copings on the south and west sides. Plain stone retaining walls with cast-iron railings return on each side of the steps at the main entrance. The west wall, which slopes from the pavement, features stone tablets commemorating former church wardens, while the south wall includes a polished granite basin of a fountain and a sandstone drinking trough. The lych gate at the main entrance has a segmental archway with a stepped parapet above, enhanced by pinnacles. The wall, railings, gate piers, and gates to the churchyard were first listed on June 7, 1972.
