Description
The Swan Hotel is a public house that likely dates back to the early 17th century. It features a timber-framed structure with mock timber and render covering the original framing, topped by a plain-tiled roof. The building is two storeys high and has a main range and a cross-wing plan. The main range is mostly taken up by a carriage entry at the rear, while the cross-wing contains the main accommodation.
The entrance is off-centre in the gable of the wing and is flanked by canted bay windows, all part of an early 20th-century public house frontage. Above this, there are two tripartite sash windows. To the right, there is a single-storey extension, likely from the early 19th century, which includes a basement storey that faces Overton Bank. The return elevation to Overton Bank features a four-window range with tripartite sash windows and a 12-pane sash window with margin lights in the extension. The rear gable is coped and constructed from roughly coursed and squared rubble, with an end wall stack. The interior has not been inspected.
