Description
The Wilkes Head Inn is a public house, likely built in the late 18th century, with some later alterations. It is constructed of brick and has a plain-tiled roof. The building stands three storeys high and features a three-window range with a central entrance. Above the doorway, there is a pediment supported by console brackets. To the left of the entrance, there is a canted bay window and door, both set under a continuous fascia, which dates from the late 19th or early 20th century. On the right side, there is an inserted public house window. The upper windows were probably originally tripartite sashes or wood mullioned windows, but they have been replaced with modern casements in the original openings, which have flat arched gauged brick heads with painted stone keys. The second storey has similar windows. There are continuous painted stone cill bands for the windows on both upper floors, a moulded stone eaves cornice, and painted stone quoins. The building also has end wall stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
