Description
No. 19 St Edwards Street is a house, now partially used as a shop, with the remainder disused. It dates from the late 18th century and is constructed of brick with a plain-tiled roof. The building has three storeys and a seven-window range with a central entrance. The entrance features a six-panelled door with a fluted frieze and a radial fanlight, all set within a highly decorated composite case that includes Corinthian capitals on fluted columns twisted in the center, a swagged cornice, and an open pediment. To the right of the doorway, there is a late 19th-century shop front with heavy brackets supporting the fascia and a recessed off-centre doorway. The other windows are all 12-pane sashes with painted stone cills and lintels. The central window on the first floor has a fluted lintel and cornice, while the attic storey features 9-pane sashes. A moulded stone fluted eaves cornice runs along the top. The building has end wall and axial stacks, and a coped gable on the left side. The interior has not been inspected, but it incorporates a sandstone block wall in the upper gable return, and there is reputed to be similar stonework at the rear.
