Description

The bridge at Froghall Wharf is a canal road bridge built around 1783. It is constructed from coursed dressed and squared stone. The bridge features a virtually round arch, a string at carriageway level, and a parapet with rounded coping that slopes upwards to the north, supported by piers at both ends. This bridge is part of the last section of the Caldon Canal, which was opened around the same time. The canal was designed to transport limestone from Caldon Low and was initially surveyed by James Brindley, later worked on by Henshaw and John Rennie.
