Description

The Rock Cottage is a house, now divided into two dwellings, dating from the 17th century with later alterations and additions. It is constructed of ashlar stone, some of which features herringbone tooling, and has a plain tile roof with coped verges on shaped kneelers and a brick ridge stack. The building has a three-cell baffle-entry plan, aligned north-south and facing east, with extensions to the west. It is one storey and has an attic, with a chamfered eaves band. The facade has three bays, featuring 20th-century bowed glazing bar casements on the left and center, a two-light chamfer mullioned window with a straight hood mould on the right, and a 20th-century gabled dormer to the right of center. The original door is located to the left of center and has a massive lintel, while a 20th-century inserted door is to the left, replacing a former window with a straight hood mould. On the north gable, there is a three-light chamfer mullioned window on the ground floor right and a casement window in a 17th-century frame with a straight hood mould at the center of the first floor. Inside, there is a timber-framed partition wall with square panels between the central and north bays, and the ceiling features chamfered and stopped beams.
