Description
This cart shed, located approximately 50 yards north-west of Mere Hall, dates from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a corrugated iron roof, aligned north-south and facing north. The building has two storeys and two roof bays. The north gable includes two cart entrances with keyed semi-circular arches supported by stone imposts, and above these are two blocked first-floor openings with segmental heads. On the east side, there are two segmental arched doors on the left and one segmental arched fixed light window on the right.
Inside, the first floor is supported by heavy chamfered cross beams resting on brick piers, and the roof truss has raking struts extending from the tie beam to the principals. This cart shed is part of a symmetrical group of contemporary farm buildings that served a now-demolished house.
