Description
Lower Drayton Cottages is a row of houses dating from the 17th century, with later alterations and additions. The buildings are primarily timber framed, though much of the timber has been replaced with brick, including red brick additions. They feature a plain tile roof, brick ridge stacks, and an integral end stack. The layout suggests a former hall and crosswing, with the hall range oriented east-west and facing south, while the crosswing to the east is aligned north-south. There are additional structures to the west of the hall range and to the north of the crosswing.
The 17th-century house on the right is two storeys high with dentilled eaves and has a 2:1 window arrangement with casements, along with a gabled wing to the right. It also features a 20th-century gabled porch to the left, which has a semi-circular arched opening. The 18th-century addition on the left is also two storeys with dentilled eaves and has four windows with casements. This addition includes 20th-century gabled porches to the left and right of centre, both with semi-circular arched openings. The east elevation shows the 17th-century wing on the left with closely-set studs on the first floor, and the gable of a late 18th-century addition to the right.
