Description
The Old Cottage is a house that likely dates back to the 15th century, with later alterations. It features a timber frame, with some parts rebuilt in brick, and has a plain tile roof with a brick ridge stack and a corner stack. The building is aligned east-west and faces north, consisting of three bays. The central bay was originally an open hall, with a solar bay to the east. The western bay has a cross-passage that has been blocked by a 17th-century chimney, creating a lobby-entry. The cottage has two storeys and a gable-lit attic, with three windows that are 20th-century casements featuring latticed panes. There is a small blocked window on the first floor to the right and a blocked oriel window on the left, which retains a projecting sill supported by a shaped bracket. The central entrance door is also from the 20th century. The framing includes closely spaced studs that are a full storey in height at the front, while the rear has square panels and a long curved tension brace.
