Description

This is a milepost located on Newcastle Road in Middle Madeley, likely dating from the mid-to-late 19th century. It is made of cast iron and features a black painted base with raised lettering. The milepost has a triangular shape with a chamfered top that slopes towards the front. The top is inscribed with "MADELEY," while the left side indicates distances to "MADELEY ½/ONNELEY 2 ½/WOORE 3 ¾," and the right side shows "KEELE 2/NEWCASTLE 5."
