Description
This former schoolmaster's house, dating to 1876, is now a private residence. Constructed of coursed sandstone with ashlar dressings and quoins, it features machine tiled roofs with ornamental cresting. The building has two central stone ridge stacks to either side of a paired stack behind the ridge, all with round shafts and moulded capping. Designed in the 17th century vernacular style, the house has a âTâ shape. It is two storeys high, with the first floor, to the front, lit by a single four-light mullion window within a central gable. The ground floor has two principal windows to the left and right, each featuring three lights with mullions and late 19th-century horned sashes. A small two-light mullion window is situated immediately to the right of a hipped entrance porch, which has a boarded door. The building incorporates a chamfered floor band and plinth. The four-light mullion window in the central gable and the smaller two-light window both include fixed lights and late 19th-century stained glass. The building is listed for its contribution to the wider group value of the area.
