Description
Middle Lock is a canal lock built around the 1770s. It is constructed of brick with stone edging. The front of the lock, facing north-east, is flanked by flights of stone steps. The steel gates were added around 1980. Middle Lock is one of a series of five locks on The Trent and Mersey Canal at its junction with the Coventry Canal. The Trent and Mersey Canal was completed in 1777, with James Brindley serving as the surveyor-general.
