Description
Bridge Number 52 and Shade House Lock is a canal bridge and lock located at Fradley Junction, dating from around the 1770s. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings. The bridge features a single 4-centred arch, and the lock, situated to the south-west, has steel gates that were installed around 1980. Shade House Lock is part of a series of five locks on the Trent and Mersey Canal at its junction with the Coventry Canal. The Trent and Mersey Canal was completed in 1777, with James Brindley serving as the surveyor-general.
