Description
Bridge Number 51 and the attached lock are a canal bridge and lock built around the 1770s. They are constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings. The bridge features a single segmental arch and a plain parapet. The lock, located to the southwest of the bridge, has wooden and steel gates that were added around 1980. This lock is part of a series of five locks on the Trent and Mersey Canal at its junction with the Coventry Canal. The Trent and Mersey Canal was completed in 1777, with James Brindley serving as the surveyor-general.
