Description
Bridge Number 50 and Keeper's Lock is a canal bridge and lock built around the 1770s, with some later alterations. It features red brick construction with ashlar dressings. The bridge has a single four-centred arch and abutments that curve outwards on each side. To the south-west of the bridge is the lock, which has wooden gates dating from around 1980.
Keeper's Lock is part of a series of five locks on the Trent and Mersey Canal at its junction with the Coventry Canal. The Trent and Mersey Canal was completed in 1777, with James Brindley as the surveyor-general. Both the bridge and the canal are noted for their group value.
