Description

Old Hall Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the 17th century, possibly on an earlier medieval site. It was remodeled and extended around 1700 and underwent further changes in the late 18th century, with additional structures added to the rear in the early and mid-19th century. The building is constructed of red brick and features a plain tile roof with raised verges, a brick ridge stack, and an integral end stack that was formerly external.

The farmhouse has a three-bay lobby-entry plan oriented north-west to south-east, facing north-east. The central and south-eastern bays were extended to the north-east around 1700, and the rear extensions are aligned north-east to south-west. It has two storeys and an attic, with storey bands and a window arrangement that has changed from five to three windows. The left side projects forward with a coped parapet that rises to square end piers, while the right side is set back and features a frieze of blind panels at attic level, reflecting the former window pattern below. The main façade has three central windows flanked by two narrower windows, with a gable above that has a blind oval keyed oculus. Most of the original tall rectangular windows have been replaced with glazing bar sashes, and there are now blocked flat brick arches.

On the left side, there is a large early 20th-century window on the ground floor, a bay window on the first floor, and two gabled dormers with casements. A lean-to porch is located to the left. The right side includes a single-storey porch with a crenellated parapet and a half-glazed entrance, with a first-floor window of reduced width.

Inside, the ground and first-floor rooms of the central bay retain cross-beams with quarter round and hollow chamfer mouldings, and there is a large open fireplace in the ground floor of the central bay with a timber bresummer. Old Hall Farmhouse is situated within a possible moated site, and the foundations of another, possibly earlier, building have been discovered immediately to the north-west.
