GV II*

House, originally part of south range of Vicars' Close. Probably C15 with alterations of c1600. Timber frame and painted brick; tile roof with brick stack. Right angle plan. 2 storeys; 3-window range. Jettied 1st floor with brick underbuilding; jettied gable. Windows have leaded glazing; ground floor has windows with pegged cross-casements with leaded glazing flanking window with 2 pointed timber lights; 1st floor has c1600 continuous oriel on coved soffit with 3 cross-casements, the opening lights with H-L hinges. C16 gable has bargeboards and herringbone framing concealing original oversailing rafter couple. Right return has lateral stack, originally projecting, but the walls built out to form flat facade; entrance has canopy to 4-fielded-panel door, 2 glazed, with small leaded side light; small light and 6-pane casement to 1st floor. INTERIOR recorded as having c1600 ceiling and newel stair, timber framing to left return. Part of a range of 5 vicar's lodgings.
