Description
Sudbury Crossing Signal Box is a signal box built in 1885 on the former North Staffordshire Railway. Its design is based on the McKenzie & Holland type one box but was constructed by the railway company rather than contractors. The building is made of brick in English bond and features a Welsh slate roof. The ground floor has two round-headed windows with glazing bars for the locking room on the track side, and there is continuous fenestration above that returns to each end. The signal box has wavy barge-boarding and weather-beaten gable walls, a sash window, and a tall stack at the rear. Open steps lead to the door. The box is understood to retain its original gatewheel and 24-lever frame.
