Description
The Tunstall War Memorial is a First World War memorial that was unveiled in 1928 and later altered following the Second World War. It is made of Hollington sandstone and features a bronze cap and plaques.
Located in the centre of Tunstall Memorial Gardens, the memorial takes the shape of a sandstone obelisk topped with a bronze pyramidal cap, standing on a two-stepped base. The dedications are placed on opposing sides of the plinth atop the pedestal. The north and south faces display the following inscription on the plaques: TO/ THE GLORIOUS MEMORY/ OF/ THE MEN OF TUNSTALL/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ DURING THE GREAT WAR/ 1914-1918.
The east and west sides are each adorned with a decorative bronze wreath that encloses the dates: 1939 – 1945.
